The first thing guests notice at Sirai Beach is the view. The house sits at the highest point of a 4.5-acre clifftop property in Kilifi, framed by ancient baobabs, the land dropping away to the Indian Ocean below — and the perspective from the veranda, the pool terrace, or the main bedroom puts you above the water in a way that a ground-level beachfront property never quite achieves. The ocean is not just adjacent here; it fills the entire horizon from every part of the house. Morning light on the water, the dhow traffic threading through Kilifi Creek in the middle distance, and the extraordinary quality of the evening sky above the open Indian Ocean — these are views that guests arrive expecting to photograph and leave describing in other terms entirely.

Sirai Beach is a private family home, designed and built by the owners of Sirai House in the Borana Conservancy as the coastal companion to their Laikipia property — creating the template for what has become Kenya’s most compelling safari-to-beach combination. The architecture is contemporary Swahili: thick Lamu wood doors, open-sided living spaces designed to capture the breeze from the ocean below, grey and white interiors that reflect the light without competing with it. The main house opens onto a veranda at its centre, with the 20-metre infinity pool ahead and the ocean beyond framed between the baobabs. A drawing room, a library with a large-screen television, an air-conditioned dining room for evening entertaining, and a wine cellar of genuine seriousness occupy the ground floor alongside the kitchen and the supporting spaces that make a house of this ambition function invisibly.

Six suites are distributed across the property. The Master Suite occupies the entire first floor of the main house — enormous, panoramic, and finished with the kind of detail that repays close attention. Five Garden Suites are arranged in individual cottages across the grounds, each with private verandas, rooftop terraces, and outdoor showers. All have sea views. The house team — chef, butler, household staff, and the water sports crew on the boat below — number enough people to run the property professionally while remaining sufficiently discreet that guests feel they are in their own home rather than a managed facility.

Sirai Beach is booked exclusively. There is no front desk, no other guests, no shared dining room with strangers. The entire property, every facility, and every member of staff are yours for the duration of the stay. The minimum is three nights in standard season; for guests arriving after a Kenya safari, it tends to become considerably longer than intended.

Sirai Beach is an exclusive clifftop private house in Kilifi, Kenya, offering breathtaking Indian Ocean views for up to twelve guests. It pairs the intimacy of a private home with luxury resort amenities, including an infinity pool, personal chef, spa, tennis court, and a crewed boat.

Rooms & Accommodation

Six suites across the property — the Master Suite in the main house and five Garden Suites in individual clifftop cottages — each with Indian Ocean views, private outdoor spaces, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and en-suite bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. Egyptian cotton linens sourced from the Nile Valley, bathroom products made with essential oils from a community project in Nanyuki, and bespoke design pieces throughout give the rooms a character that has been arrived at with care rather than assembled from a specification. Every suite has been positioned and oriented to capture the breeze from the ocean below. There is a pilot’s room adjacent to the property for an additional guest or accompanying staff member if required.

Dining

  • Head Chef Katana runs the kitchen at Sirai Beach with the kind of precision and personality that makes the dining programme one of the property’s primary attractions rather than simply a function of the all-inclusive package. Menus are bespoke and calibrated to the group’s preferences — arrived at in conversation before the stay begins and adjusted daily based on what the boat brings back, what the local market offers, and what the guests actually want. Locally sourced ingredients and line-caught fish from the property’s own boat anchor a menu that ranges from lobster ravioli and tuna carpaccio to grilled whole fish with Swahili coconut sauces and the full complement of Kenyan coastal produce in season. Breakfast can be served on the main veranda, at the pool, or brought to a suite’s terrace. Lunch is typically at the pool. Dinner moves between the open veranda, the dining room, and the grounds depending on weather and occasion — candlelit tables on the clifftop terrace, looking out over the Indian Ocean, are the evening format most guests find hardest to leave at the end of the night. House wines are included; the wine cellar holds a personally selected range of international labels available for purchase.
Dining at Sirai Beach

Best Time to Visit

Sirai Beach is open year-round and available for booking across all twelve months. The finest conditions for a coastal stay align with the Kenyan coast’s dry seasons: December through March offers reliably sunny days, warm water, excellent ocean visibility for snorkelling and diving, and temperatures in the high twenties with a cooling Indian Ocean breeze. January to March is typically the driest and most settled period — ideal for guests who want guaranteed sun and calm ocean conditions for water sports.

June to September brings the southeast trade winds — slightly cooler, occasionally breezy, and the season during which the Indian Ocean sees humpback whale migration along the East African coast. The house’s 38-foot boat can be deployed for whale watching excursions during this period, making it one of the more unusual activities in Sirai Beach’s already extensive repertoire. April and May are the long rains — the property remains open and the gardens are at their most lush, though water sports activities are weather-dependent. October and November see brief short rains; visitor numbers across the coast drop, rates tend to be more accessible, and the Indian Ocean’s fishing and diving conditions recover to their pre-long-rains quality.
