The Siana Conservancy occupies the southeastern edge of the greater Maasai Mara ecosystem — a community-owned buffer zone between the national reserve and the mixed agricultural and pastoral land beyond its boundary. Like the other conservancies ringing the reserve, Siana’s private land tenure permits activities unavailable inside the park: night game drives, off-road driving in certain areas, and guided walks without the restrictions that KWS regulations impose on the national reserve’s public areas. The conservancy supports the full complement of Mara wildlife — lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, and plains game — and its position adjacent to the Ololaimutia Gate gives guests immediate access to the national reserve’s main Mara plains.

Enkorok Mara Camp occupies 30 acres of Siana Conservancy land on the banks of the Oloirigynyisho River — a seasonal waterway whose banks draw zebra, wildebeest, and elephant to drink throughout the day and whose riverside forest provides the habitat that makes this stretch of the conservancy productive for predator sightings. Twenty-two tents sit on mahogany platforms: nineteen along the riverbank and three elevated on raised platforms for broader landscape views of the Oloolotikoshi Hills rising to the west. The Siana landscape’s distinctive character — gentler hills, more broken terrain, and the scenic hill backdrop — distinguishes it visually from the flat open plains of the Mara’s central sectors and gives Enkorok’s elevated tents one of the most photogenic camp outlooks in the eastern Mara.

The camp has built a strong repeat guest reputation. The Tamu Tamu restaurant — named from the Swahili for delicious — operates under a thatched roof in the style of a traditional African hut, with nightly buffet dinners and a kitchen consistently praised in reviews for personal attention to dietary requirements and special occasions. The cocktail bar, swimming pool, massage spa, and locally-made product shop complete a facilities range that regularly surprises guests expecting less at a camp operating at this price point.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Enkorok Mara Camp is during the dry season from July to October, when the Great Migration herds arrive in the region and the thinned-out vegetation makes it incredibly easy to track resident big cats and elephants. Because the camp is set on the banks of the Oloolaimutia River on the eastern eastern side of the Maasai Mara, this peak window offers excellent opportunities to watch wildlife drawing close to the river right from the camp’s tents and lounges. If you want to experience phenomenal predator action with far fewer tourist vehicles, the short dry season from January to March is ideal, as the birth of countless herbivore calves triggers active pride hunting across the plains. Alternatively, the wet green seasons from November to December and April to May transform the savannah into a vibrant emerald backdrop perfect for photography and migratory birdwatching, rewarding visitors with the lowest accommodation rates of the year and highly personal game drives, though the taller grass can make wildlife a bit more challenging to track.
