Soroi Luxury Migration Camp
A 10-tent retreat on the Olare Orok River, with resident hippo, big cats, and the Great Migration on its doorstep.
The Maasai Mara is not a uniform savannah but a layered system of ecosystems — open short-grass plains, riverine forest, acacia thicket, and the seasonal flood corridors of the Mara and Talek rivers — each sustaining its own concentration of wildlife. The territory around Ol Kiombo, drained by the seasonal Olare Orok River, holds some of the reserve’s most consistent large predator activity: established lion prides, high leopard density, and the year-round prey base that supports both. Soroi Luxury Migration Camp occupies a bend in the Olare Orok’s riverine forest — a position that delivers shade, privacy, and the nightly soundtrack of hippo calling from the pools directly below.
Ten luxury tents are raised on stilts and spaced well apart along the riverbank, each facing the water through floor-to-ceiling glass frontage that makes the boundary between interior and wilderness largely notional. The design logic is deliberate: comfort should not come at the cost of immersion. Every tent has a private verandah positioned to face the river; every morning begins with the option of coffee on that verandah and whatever moves through the riparian forest at first light. The camp’s experienced guides carry an intimate knowledge of individual animals and territorial ranges in this section of the Mara — an asset that converts a game drive from a general excursion into something closer to a continuing field study.
Facilities are compact by design. The dedicated photographic lounge — with charging stations, projector, and screen — has established the camp’s reputation among serious wildlife photographers, and the open-air dining area and campfire deck positioned above the hippo pool give the evenings a particular character. The hippo pool below the deck is an attraction without arrangement. For the July to October Great Migration period, the camp’s proximity to the Mara River crossing points places guests within reach of one of the natural world’s most arresting spectacles. Outside the migration window, the permanent resident wildlife — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, and the full range of Mara plains game — ensures the game-viewing calendar remains full year-round.
Tucked into riverine forest on the Olare Orok River, Soroi offers elevated tent living, twice-daily game drives, a photographic lounge, and a seclusion-first philosophy in prime Maasai Mara wildlife country.

Rooms & Accommodation
Soroi Luxury Migration Camp’s 10 tents are distributed along the Olare Orok River in two configurations: eight triple river-facing tents and two family river-facing tents. All tents are raised on stilts, generously spaced for privacy, and face the river through floor-to-ceiling glass frontage that opens to a private verandah. Each tent is furnished with a four-poster bed, mosquito net, en-suite bathroom with hot and cold shower and flush toilet, storage chest, writing desk, and verandah deck chairs. Solar power runs 24 hours; Wi-Fi and charging sockets are standard throughout. Dining
Dining at Soroi Luxury Migration Camp moves between the al-fresco terrace and the campfire deck above the hippo pool, with indoor options available when the weather turns. The kitchen is led by a head chef experienced in both international and African cuisines, producing daily-changing menus that draw on the camp’s own organic vegetable garden — a feature unusual enough at this level that guests consistently comment on the freshness of the produce. Breakfast is served before the morning drive; lunch on return; afternoon tea and campfire nibbles at sundowner; dinner under the stars or beside the fire with the sounds of the river below.
The full-board rate covers all three meals plus afternoon tea, filtered water, soft drinks, local beers, selected spirits, and house wines. Premium spirits, champagne, and private cellar wines are available at additional cost. Dietary requirements — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, and children’s menus — are accommodated with advance notice. Bush dinners and sundowner setups in the field can be arranged on request.

Best Time to Visit
The Maasai Mara is a year-round destination, and Soroi Luxury Migration Camp’s position in high-density predator territory means the game-viewing calendar never empties entirely — but the different seasons offer meaningfully different experiences, and the choice of timing shapes the character of a stay.
The Great Migration period — July through October — is the most sought-after window. Wildebeest and zebra numbering in the millions move into the Mara ecosystem from the Serengeti from late June, and the Mara River crossings occur with increasing frequency from July through September. The camp’s proximity to the crossing points makes this a genuinely competitive position in the ecosystem for migration guests. Accommodation rates and demand peak sharply in this window; advance booking of six to twelve months is advisable for the peak crossing season of August and September.
The dry season shoulder months — January, February, June, and November — offer excellent game-viewing in thinner grass, good light for photography, and more competitive rates than the migration peak. Resident wildlife — lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, and a full range of plains game — is present and active year-round, and the guiding team’s knowledge of individual animals makes these quieter months genuinely productive.
The long rains of March through May bring lush vegetation, dramatic skies, and the calving season on the Serengeti plains that drives the wildebeest back south. The Mara is quieter, rates are at their most accessible, and the landscape is at its most photogenic. Some roads become challenging after heavy rain, and game-viewing requires more patience, but guests who travel in this window frequently report a quality of experience — unhurried, intimate, and uncrowded — that the high season cannot replicate.
