Loldia House
A Rift Valley Homestead Where History Meets the Wild
There is a particular kind of magic that only comes with age. Loldia House has been cultivating it since 1943, a colonial homestead that wears its history lightly, folding warm hospitality and understated luxury into a setting that feels genuinely, wonderfully alive.
Perched on the north-western shores of Lake Naivasha within a 6,500-acre working ranch, Loldia sits at the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. Volcanic mountains frame the horizon. Hippos surface among papyrus reeds at the water’s edge. African fish eagles announce the morning from their perches in ancient fig trees. And yet the pace here is unhurried, a deliberate contrast to the intensity of the Mara or Amboseli that makes Loldia either a perfect introduction to Kenya or a deeply restorative finale.
Part of the Governors’ Camp Collection, Loldia House carries the same commitment to excellence in guiding and guest experience that has defined that name for decades. But this property has a character entirely its own — somewhere between a country estate and a safari lodge, with wide verandas, wooden floors, antique furnishings, and a communal dining table where the day’s encounters are swapped over home-cooked meals and good wine.
Built in 1943 on the north-western shores of Lake Naivasha, Loldia House is one of Kenya's most enchanting and historically rooted safari retreats — a working 6,500-acre ranch where hippos graze the lawns at dusk and fish eagles call across open water.

Rooms & Accommodation
Loldia House accommodates just nine guests across a thoughtfully arranged mix of rooms, cottages, and lakeside suites — a scale that keeps the experience personal and the guiding genuinely attentive. The original main house anchors the property, with one en-suite double room that retains the full character of the homestead: wooden beams, antique pieces, and a proximity to the main veranda that invites lingering mornings over coffee.
Three separate garden cottages are positioned across the estate grounds, each housing two individual en-suite rooms with private verandas — well-suited to families or small groups who want their own space without sacrificing proximity to the communal heart of the property. A fourth cottage, known as Top Cottage, is ideal for larger groups, offering three bedrooms, a shared lounge, and a log fire with views across the ranch.
At the waterfront, two luxury suites offer the most dramatic setting on the property — standalone units with private plunge pools, king-size beds, and panoramic views across Lake Naivasha shaded by ancient fig trees. For those on honeymoon or simply seeking elevated privacy, these suites set Loldia apart from every comparable property on the lake.

Dining
Meals at Loldia House are as central to the experience as the game drives. Breakfast is often served beneath the estate’s ancient fig trees, farm-fresh and unhurried. Afternoon tea arrives on the terrace without fail — a colonial-era ritual that Loldia has never seen a reason to abandon. In the evenings, guests gather around a communal table to eat and share the day’s sightings over locally sourced food, house wine, and the kind of conversation that only safari seems to produce.
The kitchen leans into what the farm and the region provide — fish and shrimp from the lake are a particular highlight. The approach is farm-to-table without the pretension: honest, seasonal, and genuinely delicious. Dietary requirements are accommodated warmly. Drinks are included in the full board rate, covering soft drinks, beer, house wines, and non-premium spirits.

Best Time to Visit
| Loldia House is open year-round and rewards a visit in almost any season, but the dry months from June through October offer the most reliable game viewing across the ranch and on day trips to Lake Nakuru. Wildlife concentrates around water sources, and the skies above the Rift Valley are consistently clear — ideal for the boat safaris and open game drives that define a stay here. January and February bring dry, hot conditions with excellent birdlife activity on the lake and newborn animals across the grasslands. The short rains of November and December turn the landscape brilliantly green and coincide with the arrival of migratory bird species, making Loldia particularly rewarding for birders during this period. Unlike destinations tied to a single seasonal event, Loldia’s appeal shifts with the calendar rather than disappearing — the lake never stops producing remarkable wildlife encounters. |
