Kibo Safari Camp

Kibo is the name of the highest of Kilimanjaro’s three volcanic cones — the snow-capped summit that reaches 5,895 metres and that, on a clear Amboseli morning, appears to occupy the entire southern horizon with an authority that makes the act of naming a camp after it feel less like branding and more like an honest acknowledgement of what dominates this landscape. The Amboseli basin sits at the mountain’s northern foot, and the relationship between the flat open plains, the seasonal marshes fed by Kilimanjaro’s snowmelt, and the mountain above them has produced one of the most photographed wildlife landscapes in Africa: elephant herds crossing dust flats with the white summit behind them is the image that sells Amboseli to the world.

Kibo Safari Camp is positioned 2 kilometres from Kimana Gate on Amboseli’s eastern boundary — close enough to the park that game drives enter with minimal travel time, and positioned on a line of sight that places Kilimanjaro in view from the tents, from the restaurant terrace, from the pool deck, and from the balcony of every tent in the Private Wing. The 110 main camp tents are self-contained units set on stone bases with thatched roofs, each furnished with a bush-log bed handcrafted from local materials — the same design signature as sister camp Mara Maisha in the Maasai Mara. All tents have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold shower, flush toilet, and wash basin, plus 240V power sockets, mosquito nets, and free Wi-Fi. The camp is 100% solar-powered. The Kibo Private Wing is a separate, gated section of the property — 10 luxury tents with a private lounge, dining area, four fully equipped kitchens, a brick pizza oven, BBQ grill, and campfire. The Private Wing suits families, groups, and travellers who want exclusive-use accommodation with the option to self-cater entirely or take full-board meals from the main kitchen. Private Wing guests access the main camp’s pool, spa, and art gallery for the duration of their stay.
